BOOK RIG

 

Rigging a book was interesting and fun. This was created in MAYA 2014.

 

 

The above image shows the book used for rigging.

 

To do the rig joints were used to the cover of the book and the book.

Joints help in folding the book. Blend shapes were used to control the amount of thickness of the book when it folded.

 

 

The above image shows the joints used to rig the book.

 

A general editor named Component editor was used to get the cover of the book in shape.

Then, the book was duplicated several times so to create blend shapes.

 

 

Joints were created for both book cover and the book and skinned to their respective props.

After this process the book was able to close and open.

 

 

The above image shows the fanning of the pages.

 

* A loose page was grouped to itself and key framed the turning of page.

* The loose page was duplicated and brought outside the group to create a bend deformer to the page. The input of bend deformer consisted an attribute called curvature which was used to bend the page.

* Number of pages were done with same method placing them corresponding to one another as shown in image.

* A Blend deformer was created to the pages.

*The final panning of the pages was imported in new file.

 

 

The image shows the controls for book.

 

The book can perform the following functions -

 

* Rt(right) control is used to turn the right side of the book

*Lf(left) control is used to turn the left side of the book.

* CLOSE is used to close the book completely.

*FRONT  BACK are used to tilt the book front and back

* LEFT RIGHT control is used to rotate the book in closed situation.

* Pages can be turned by using the page fanning control.

* Red plus is the master control which helps in moving, rotating and scaling the book.

 

This rigging helped me to learn a lot and I made many mistakes. Though it was interesting and exciting to learn new things.
